amDCT "adaptive multifunction DCT", deblock, smooth, sharpen, range expansion filter.

Fell in love with this filter when I tested it with short clips.

Now, it is a nightmare because I can't get it to work with anything longer than a few minutes without crashing.

Nothing like having a 6 hour job crash at 90%.

The most stable performance with short clips seems to be with ncpu=1 (the default) and the version 1.1 "testing" version posted in January, with 2 x264 encode threads and 4 Avisynth MT threads. Even with this is still crashes occassionally.

This is with amDCT as the only Avisynth filter.

REALLY needs a 64 bit version for Vapoursynth! :(

Code:

LoadCPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\Hybrid\32bit\AVISYN~1\ffms2.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\Hybrid\32bit\AVISYN~1\amDCT.dll")
SetFilterMTMode("DEFAULT_MT_MODE", MT_MULTI_INSTANCE)
# loading source: E:\USER\Test\Test.mp4
#  input color sampling YV12
#  input luminance scale tv
FFVideoSource("E:\USER\Test\Test.mp4")
# current resolution: 1920x1080
# deblocking
# deblocking using amDCT
# padding to mod16 for speed
# Current resilution: 1936x1088
AddBorders(8,4,8,4)

MeGUI: General Questions and Troubleshooting Thread

The main problem is, with sequential vob files the video and audio is continuous. That's why they can be indexed as a single file. There's no guarantee that'll be the case for MP4s though, or that the audio and video in each MP4 would be the same length.
Even if you appended them as a single MKV and encoded the video in one go you might still have problems, although after encoding, if you opened the encoded video with MKVToolNixGUI, added the original MKV, de-selected the original video and remuxed, there's some chance the audio and video would still be in sync, although if the audio in any of the MP4s happened to be longer than the video, that probably wouldn't work either.

If you really need a lossless mezzanine that doesn't require much computational cost, I think you're better off with UTVideo.
Alternatively, you can use other lossless codecs like FFV1, HuffYUV or Lagarith, although my suggestion is UTVideo or FFV1.

I tried make it .yuv raw from virtualdub2 using ffv1 lossless, it took the same time as x264-10bit lossless if not a bit more.

Also, now x265 inputs it directly but it encodes it WAY much slower for IDK reason. Also file size is so freaking huge, maybe I did something bad despite using the exact same encoding commands:

Code:

x265_64bit_10bit.exe --preset slower --crf 17 --ref 6 --rd 6 --psy-rd 1 --ctu 32 --aq-strength 0.8 --output-depth 10 --input-res 1920x1080 --fps 24000/1001 --input "C:\videp.yuv" --output "C:\output.hevc"

What exactly is the difference between t_mod and the vanilla x264? I noticed there are at least some new AQ modes, what do they improve upon and what kind of content are they for?

Decoding Raw Capture

There are now more modern ways to do this, when quality really counts.
There's an opensource hardware gadget which digitizes the raw signal, and software to decode it.
So far, this is DIY, but there's some interest in putting together kits or premade units. However, even in that case, you need to connect 2 wires to a specific point in your unit, which you have to identify.

There are other ways, using specific Linux drivers for capture cards based on the Conexant cx2388x video decoder chip.

Thanks! So, I can use this in GUIs?

Well, it depends.

Simple x264/x265 Launcher, for example, supports VapourSynth scripts as input – provided that VapourSynth is installed on your machine. It does not provide any kind of VapourSynth editor though; that is out of scope.

So, if you are looking for a fully-fledged GUI editor for VapourSynth scripts, you should probably have a look at VapourSynth Editor.

Does x64 have any advantage vs x86?

I got the answer with weak 2 core CPU without ht and svp. So, x64 really faster and d3d11 faster than d3d9 copyback. Faster means less CPU load. IMHO to get correct performance comparison in real life you need weak 2 core cpu without ht, if CPU is weak graphics are more sensible

now x265 inputs it directly but it encodes it WAY much slower
FFV1 offers one of the most efficient compression rate, size-wise, but it is also slow as hell.
And if it is slower than others lossless codecs in compression, it is also slower in decompression !

I am not surprised that x265 encoded slower too, you should try UTVideo instead.

Short test additional function for yuv420p 8bit QP=32 CTU=32 LCTUFast=0 with encoder_randomaccess_vtm.cfg
no function = effect blur
add full paralleism = much smaller effect blur only frame I
add tracing = test encoder, longer total time
add rext = much smaller effect blur only frame I
add rext + paralleism = effect banding
add only split paralleism = file is the same as no function

Conclusions:
LCTUFast should be enabled for small CTUs. The frames have more details.
